"End-Time Prophecy in Recent History"
The fall holidays of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah), Atonement (Yom Kippur), and Tabernacles (Sukkot) are fast approaching. Another Hebrew year is coming to a close and the new one is emerging. So, where are we now in God’s end-time plan? Many of us are closely watching numerous current events and examining the prophecies to see if the words describe the events of our day. Additionally, we are trying follow the sequence of events historically that had brought us to this day.
Prophecy and history are intimate friends. Prophecy is history that has not happened yet, and history is prophecy about the future. You have heard the sayings, What goes around, comes around, and those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Looking back can tell you much about what is going to happen. It is not just long-term history that works this way. Short-term history can yield trend analysis and point specifically to short-term future issues.
The stalled Peace Talks between Israel and the Palestinians have led to the Palestinians unilaterally seeking recognition as a state with the United Nations. Every state has recognized borders with its neighbors. But what are the borders for the Palestinian state? This has resulted in a dramatic discussion on the world scene about dividing the land of Israel. Many end-time prophecies hinge on this point.
Several prophets of Israel cite the conflict of Jerusalem and the land of Israel being divided as key signs of the end, leading to the Day of the Lord.
I will gather all the nations, and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; and they have divided up My land. JOE 3:2 [emphasis mine]
In May of this year (2011), President Obama proclaimed that a Palestinian state should be based on the 1967 borders. In August of this year, Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel agreed to the basic definition to get the Peace Talks going again. The Palestinians have decided to unilaterally divide the land, thus putting all Jewish settlements for the last 40 years in jeopardy by defining them as illegal. Recent history has spoken directly to the ancient words of the Prophet Joel.
I believe that we are the final generation and that the end of the ages is upon us. I believe that the Messiah will soon come and establish His kingdom in Jerusalem before this generation has passed. So, with that as a basis let us examine the recent history of our generation and try to understand the trend toward the end, comparing actual historical facts with the words of the Prophets.
Instead of trying to grasp the future by anticipation, let us understand where we are going by recounting what has already happened. For purposes of this comparison, let us examine the last 63 years, what some of us as members of the “Baby Boomer” generation have seen.
The Modern State of Israel and the City of Jerusalem
At the beginning of my generation, a momentous event took place. Israel was reborn as a nation. You have to go all the way back to 70 A.D. to see the history when Israel was a nation before 1948. Israel is the only nation to have been destroyed, its people removed from their homeland, taken captive and scattered to other nations, and then re-established with its people able to return to their historical homeland. The prophet Isaiah described the event this way.
Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she gave birth to a boy. Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Can a land be born in one day? Can a nation be brought forth all at once? As soon as Zion travailed, she also brought forth her sons. ISA 66:7-8
Not only is this a miracle of sorts (a nation born in one day) in world history, it is absolutely essential to the end-time prophecies. The end-time prophecies require that the House of Judah (Jews) be living in their homeland and surrounded by enemies and conflicts (Zion in travail). The land of Israel and the city of Jerusalem are ground zero for all Biblical end-time prophecies.
When Israel gained control of the city of Jerusalem in 1967, the reality of these prophecies truly gripped the world. Jews saw it as a direct fulfillment of God’s promise to bring the scattered exiles back from the nations. Christians saw it as essential for the Messiah to return (just as He left from the Mount of Olives). End-time prophecy book sales exploded. Muslims saw it as the basis of their end-time conflict as well. Yasser Arafat organized the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to violently capture Jerusalem back. Muslim extremists began to organize themselves, hijacking airplanes, blowing themselves up, and exploiting “terrorism” as a tactic, just as the prophecy said.
“For, behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will restore the fortunes of My people Israel and Judah.” The Lord says, “I will also bring them back to the land that I gave to their forefathers, and they shall possess it.” Now these are the words which the Lord spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah, “For thus says the Lord, ‘I have heard a sound of terror, of dread, and there is no peace.’” JER 30:3-5
While many in the world blame the Jews for many things, the reality is that the nation of Israel and the city of Jerusalem are the focus of our world in this generation just as the prophecies said it would be at the end. The prophecies say that the end-time struggle is a conflict between the God of Israel and God’s enemies. Israel is the target and Jerusalem is the “bulls eye.”
Several Biblical prophets speak of Israel and the city of Jerusalem, describing the world and the conflict this way.
Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be against Judah. And it will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it. In that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot among pieces of wood and a flaming torch among sheaves, so they will consume on the right hand and on the left all the surrounding peoples, while the inhabitants of Jerusalem again dwell on their own sites in Jerusalem. And it will come about in that day that I will set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. ZEC 12:2-3, 6, 9
It is an historical fact that since 1967, numerous UN resolutions have been passed calling for peace, to no avail. Terrorism used as a tactic of war has spread world-wide and has been used by multiple organizations and groups to instill fear and uncertainty. Suicide bombers are the premier weapon of choice forcing all of us to submit to new and invasive security procedures to stop threats against airlines and airline passengers. It all began in Israel as the prophets said. Never before has the world seen anything like the conflict we face today, just as the Prophet Jeremiah said.
Alas! For that day is great, there is none like it; and it is the time of Jacob's distress, but he will be saved from it. JER 30:7
The prophet Daniel has said that the final period of the end (the Great Tribulation) would be a time bringing distresses like the world has never seen.
...And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time... DAN 12:1b
We now see the trend that will lead to the days of the Great Tribulation.
Events in Jerusalem are the central focus of end-time prophecy. The shutting down of the altar on the temple mount is THE SIGN of the end as enumerated by the Messiah while only a few hundred yards away, the Mount of Olives is the very place from which Yeshua ascended and will return.
And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; ZEC 14:4a
The events of 1948 and 1967 stand clearly as examples of world events that have moved us forward to the end-time prophecies. Looking back at this history portends the future conflict that we see today and the soon return of the Messiah.
The Plans to Rebuild the Altar and
Since 1967 the Jews have been able to approach the Western Wall, which contains many of the original stones commissioned by King Herod to build the temple mount base. The government of Israel controlled the actual temple mount for a while until Moshe Dayan gave it back to the Jordanians as an expression of “good will” and respect for their religion; however, no good will came from it. Access to the temple mount stirred up the passions of many devoted Jews. Jewish organizations, such as the Temple Mount Faithful and the Temple Institute, have garnered support for rebuilding the altar and the temple. A poll taken in Israel in May 2011 showed for the first time that a clear majority of Israel’s citizens wanted to see the temple rebuilt. Heretofore, only ancient prophecies stated that an altar would stand and have the daily sacrifice be a part of that altar.
Today, there is no altar on the temple mount. The Jews do not have control of the area to even construct an altar. Because of the prophecy, we anticipate a change in ownership of the temple mount to open the opportunity for construction. But, for the first time we have something essential for that prophecy to become a reality. There are Jews in Israel (a majority now) who want the temple to be rebuilt.
As we said before, this altar on the temple mount in the city of Jerusalem in the nation of Israel is the focal point for the Great Tribulation prophecies.
Gird yourselves with sackcloth, and lament, O priests; wail, O ministers of the altar! Come, spend the night in sackcloth O ministers of my God, for the grain offering and the drink offering are withheld from the house of your God. Consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly; gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord. Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is near, and it will come as destruction from the Almighty. JOEL 1:13-15
The Three Traits of the Final “Baby Boomer” Generation
Studying the end times in the Scriptures can be both an enlightening and a frustrating experience. It is like trying to fold a bed sheet on a windy day. At one moment you seem to understand and at another your conclusions fly away beyond your understanding. The Prophet Daniel (one of the major prophets to address the end times) had the same problem. He himself did not seem to fully understand the very prophecies that he was responsible for giving. The Lord instructed him to cease from his struggle and stated that the understanding would come to other men at the end times. The characterization of the last generation is our focus here.
But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the end of time; many will go back and forth, and knowledge will increase. DAN 12:4
There are three traits spelled out which define and characterize the final generation (the generation that is to understand Daniel’s prophecies by being a part of them). Every generation has its defining events or traits, but the final generation is to be unique from all others. These words, therefore, are general characterizations; they are unique in their nature.
The first trait is many. This generation truly represents many. In 1994 the world population rose to six billion people. Not only is it the greatest number of people to live in the world at one time, it is a greater number of people to ever live in the history of the earth since the creation 6,000 years ago. More than 50% of all the people who have ever lived in the history of the earth are alive today walking on the surface of the earth. In 2012, the world population number is expected to reach seven billion persons.
It has been called the “population explosion” since the days of my youth. We are about to enter the years where the resources of the earth (food, fuel, and water) will be stretched to provide for all who are living on the earth. This is the first year (2011) of the baby boomers retiring and starting to draw Social Security pensions at the age of 65. In a few short years more people will be drawing Social Security than those paying in. Some see this as a coming disaster; I see it as a unique definition given by the prophet that describes us and this generation.
The second trait defining the end-time generation is traveling back and forth. In prior generations travel to another nation or across a continent was a life-changing event. Many times they did not return. Ships, airplanes, and automobiles were made before our generation but the ships, airplanes, and automobiles of today are vastly different in their number and capabilities. I have taken many friends to Israel on tour. We have flown from our homes to New York to catch a flight that took us to Tel Aviv, Israel only to return ten days later to our homes. Such a trip was virtually impossible before my birth. I live in the middle of Oklahoma. One hundred and fifty years ago, standing in my front yard, you could have stood outdoors for days before ever seeing another living soul. Within five minutes of my house you can now see the world going back and forth at 65 miles per hour (a term of measurement that is comprehended by the general public only in this generation) when you reach the interstate highway. Oklahoma is called the “Crossroads of America” and you can see license plates from every state going back and forth.
If you were to travel back just one hundred years and describe the common sight of today to them, they would have most likely considered you to be “demon possessed” and utterly “out of your mind;” the world has changed that much. Our generation is truly unique from all other generations simply because we travel back and forth.
The third trait that marks our generation is the increase in knowledge (technology). The technology available to the common people has become common place and now rules the day like nothing before. New technologies are being introduced faster than most people’s imaginations can keep up. I rode the wave of desktop computers in my technical career. I remember telling my colleagues at a professional conference that if they were not competent using a desktop computer that within five years they would unemployable. I was wrong; it was less than three years. What was used by engineers only then is now virtually in every home.
Telephones dramatically changed the world. I remember when there was one telephone in a home or business and no one understood digital except a few scientists and engineers. Today, professional adults are classified as digital natives or digital immigrants. My own children are native. They grew up in a home with a computer rather than acquiring a computer as adults. Apparently, companies say that digital natives can adapt to the latest advances much quicker. It comes “naturally” to them.
The personal skill set of many professionals today cannot even be compared to the previous generation. Their awareness of the world is beyond those who remained only in the county where they were born, meaning they were not exposed to other cultures and people groups through travel, and the technology today shows little relation to the small local businesses and small manufacturing of previous generations.
You may have heard of a concept called the doubling of knowledge. The first time this term was used was in 1958. Somehow it was determined that the knowledge learned since 1900 to 1958 was equivalent to which mankind had learned from creation to 1900. (Don’t ask me how they measured it.) Since that time, at various intervals, they have said that the knowledge of the world had doubled upon itself again. I remember the announcement in 1970. The rate has been increasing ever since. Presently, it is now doubling at the rate of every TWO MONTHS! We have now become so dependent upon technology that every natural or man-made disaster is multiplied if electrical power and cell phone communications are knocked out.
If you were to get into a time machine and travel back 150 years and tell the folks about your cell phone, satellites, large screen televisions, and microwave ovens, they would not only consider you “demon possessed” and “crazy,” they would probably burn you at the stake to protect themselves from you.
Our recent history is just what the prophecy said it would be in the end times. The Lord told Daniel to keep the prophecy – conceal these words and seal up the book until the end of time – until our time.
Fearful Things in the Heavens
Advances in technology have enabled man to see farther into the Universe than ever before. We have also learned much more about what is happening in and around our solar system. But with this knowledge has come concern and alarm. In the early 1900's a part of the Siberian forest was discovered to have experienced a very large airborne explosion. Trees were knocked down in a large circular area with more force than a nuclear explosion, yet there was no radiation or evidence of explosive chemicals. It was determined to be a meteorite approaching an impact with earth and exploding in the atmosphere. This evidence caused NASA to consider the possibility that there still may be objects in our solar system that could impact earth.
NASA developed the “Space Watch” program in the mid 1990’s and it essentially consisted of one man paid by NASA to begin scanning the heavens for “Near Earth Objects (NEO).” Today, the United States Air Force and NASA are very serious about watching everything flying around in our solar system, cataloging and checking the orbits of every asteroid, comet, and anything else they find. What they have discovered is nothing short of frightening. There is no question about whether we will be hit by one these items; it is only a question of when. It is like discovering that you are in a room where a dozen people are all shooting at each other with guns. With all the bullets flying, it is only a matter of time before you catch one yourself.
Yeshua Himself described our days - the days when the end would come.
And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things [from space] which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. LUK 21:25-27
In the last several months and years, the news media reported how we were just recently missed by various asteroids, many have been closer than the Sun to us. Some have been closer than the moon to us.
No other generation has had the capability to see and understand what is coming out of the heavens toward us. It is only in these days that men have become concerned and are studying how to avoid them.
Hollywood has also jumped on this fear by producing movies such as “Deep Impact” and post-apocalyptic stories. The prophecy speaks of a deep impact scenario that will darken the sun, moon, and stars for five months.
And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven which had fallen to the earth; and the key of the bottomless pit was given to him. He opened the bottomless pit, and smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the pit. REV 9:1-2
This explains the prophet Isaiah’s description of the earth at the very end.
For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; but the Lord will rise upon you, and His glory will appear upon you. ISA 60:2
The Beginnings of Sorrows
In a previous YAVOH article entitled with this heading, I detailed how the words of Yeshua are specific to our days. Wars and rumors of wars, disease, earthquakes, and famine have been a part of human history and of themselves do not identify the end times. But our days are different from others in history. We are now witnesses to these things on a daily basis. Information technology has now made every living room and home a hub of world activity for these topics. Truly, these things are present in the world and in our consciousness. However, Yeshua added three other elements mixed with these.
But all these things [wars and rumors of wars, disease, earthquakes, famine] are merely the beginning of birth pangs. Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold. MAT 24:8-12
Hating God and those who believe in God was something reserved for ancient battlefields and past atrocities, but now it is among us and growing daily. Governments and groups of citizens are taking a very negative view toward anyone trusting God or standing on their faith principles. In just the last couple of years, the “Tea Party” in the United States has become the brunt of every hated cause. Truly they are hated without cause. The fact is the vast majority of the “Tea Party” citizens are conservative minded Christians. They are acting on their religious principles and translating them into political action. Their critics scorn them for seeking “righteous” goals in the public square. But this isn’t the worst example. In other nations such as China, Pakistan, Iran, Indonesia, and Egypt (just to mention a few), Christians are being slaughtered and suffering imprisonment contrary even to their own laws. It hasn’t always been this way, but it is getting worse day by day in this present world.
Prophecy books have been pumped out by the millions since 1967. Not only are there differing ideas of when the rapture happens among Christians, we now have books with prophecies from other nations, cultures, and religions. We are inundated with end–of–the–world–as–you–know-it predictions, even from non-religious sources. There is no lack of prophets in our world, and with so many prophets it follows that many people are being mislead.
The first false prophecy I ever heard about the end of the world was in 1964. Since then, we have all heard the predictions for 1988, 2000, and even this past May 2011, which has been postponed until this coming October. Presently, December 21, 2012 is the latest prediction. The one that really takes the cake is the prediction of Pre-tribulation Rapture. They don’t set dates; they believe today, tomorrow, the day after that, and next month, or next year will be the return of the Messiah. They are predicting every day and no day at the same time.
False prophets are NOT just people who make faulty predictions. They are people who speak against the Word of God (especially the Law of Moses) saying that others should not follow God’s commandments. The Christian world is full of false teachers telling believers not to follow the instruction (Torah) of Moses. According to the Bible, the word “lawlessness” is referring to someone who refuses to follow the Torah and the commandments of God. For those of us in the Messianic Movement, learning Torah, we know how pervasive that it.
You could argue that the events of wars and rumors of wars, disease, earthquakes, famine, hatred toward God, false prophets, and lawlessness are directly related to the “love of many growing cold.” You would probably be right. They do seem to be connected by cause and effect. However, there is more to love growing cold. This reaches down into everyone’s soul. It affects your family members, your fellow employees, your neighbors, and your friends. Respect and common courtesy has left our general discourse in society and government. If you have any question about it, just look at our elected leaders; they represent us. Rancor and discord have replaced courtesy and public respect. For groups of people, public protest and riots have replaced the respect of the majority opinion.
Mockers of God / Haters of God
In my youth, a woman named Madeline Murray O’Hare protested against prayer in public school. Her court case went to the Supreme Court and she won her case. She claimed that she was an Atheist and did not want her son to be indoctrinated into a religion at school. Since then, a myriad of legal proceedings have been passed forcing plaques and stone monuments of the Ten Commandments to be removed from public buildings. Military Chaplains cannot pray in the manner of their particular faith; they must make it “plain vanilla” for anyone and everyone. All of this is happening to ensure the government does not endorse any religion (actually it is freedom FROM religion).
The courts have also seen fit to include homosexuals and lesbians into the definition of marriage, which is a religious law; not a civil law, but have included marriage into civil laws, forcing all citizens to accept their decisions, even above natural/religious law. But, the real reason these things are happening is the growing contempt for God and those who believe in God. It just happens to be the Christians’ turn in the bucket. It was the Jews’ turn during the Holocaust. It has become politically correct to slander and mock the Messiah and those who believe in Him. Homosexuals constitute approximately 6% of the citizenry and 99% of them mock and dispute God.
As a Jewish believer, I am aware of how the pre-WWII German government propaganda and the Protestant Church culture promoted anti-Semitic mass murder. It started with open mockery of Jews and the devaluation of an entire group of people to a social class of sub-human. It is a fact that our United States Government is repeating this exact behavior through the voices of our elected leaders and use of the mass media for its propaganda. History is repeating itself. Yeshua said we would be treated like He was treated – false accusations, false arrests, and death.
When the subject of God’s return and judgment of the world is brought into the public square, it is now met with public scorn almost resulting in violence. It didn’t use to be this way, we have watched it transform before our eyes.
Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.” 2PE 3:3-4
If you don’t believe this prophecy has been fulfilled yet, just start a conversation with a homosexual or a lesbian and tell them that you are anticipating the return of the Lord soon. By the way, people who mock others are neither liberal (the real meaning of the word) or tolerant of others. They are sinners following their own lusts as the prophecy said.
The Messianic Movement
When Israel became a nation, Evangelical Christianity was suddenly boosted from a status of heretics. Prior to that the World Council of Churches and all established Christian denominations were on record as saying that Israel would never be Israel ever again. They all claimed that those promises to Israel had been transferred to the Church, and that God was finished with Israel.
But then Israel became a nation in the land of Israel. Those heretic Christians who believed the prophecy suddenly gained respectability. But then something else happened that even the Evangelical Christians had not anticipated. Some Jews became believers of Yeshua the Messiah and remained Jews in their identity and faith. They saw the Messiah as Jewish, His disciples as Jewish. They understood that the original disciples worshipped at the temple in Jerusalem; not in a church. They kept Sabbath, not Sunday. They kept kosher and the other customs of Moses. Congregations and fellowships of Hebrew Christians and Messianic Jews began to pop up in cities and towns worldwide. Suddenly it wasn’t just a “Jewish” thing; there were lots of non-Jews too.
I have always said that the Messianic Movement is “messy.” We look like the children of Israel getting ready to leave Egypt. We are about as organized as the journey to the Red Sea was. We also complain about one another like our ancestors did in the wilderness. We are the fulfillment of the prophecies concerning the final remnant of Israel before the Messiah brings the scattered exiles back from the nations to the real promised land (the Messianic Kingdom).
We even have the same controversies and problems prophesied by the Messiah for the last-day believers. Let me mention a couple of His warnings to us to see if we have those issues.
I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich), and the blasphemy by those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. REV 2:9
This warning was given to believers - end-time believers. This warning is directed to believers just before the events of the Great Tribulation. It is only since the modern Messianic Movement that we have specific believers who are Jews within the ranks of the Christian believers. And one of the most outrageous controversies deals with those non-Jews who have joined with the Jews in keeping the Torah and customs of Moses.
Some Messianic Jews hold to the stereotypes of Judaism and Orthodox Judaism. “There are only Jews and Gentiles in the world.” But there are some other Messianic Jews (like myself) with the majority of Messianic believers who follow the Biblical definition of the world. “There are Jews from the House of Judah and there are some Ephraimites from the House of Israel and there are also Gentiles from the other nations.”
Instead of referring to what the prophecies say about the end times, some Messianic Jews and their organizations slander and falsely accuse their own brethren (the synagogue of Satan is to sit in the seat of accusers). As a result, there is no common ground to understand the Messiah and His return together; but, instead, we see open racial bigotry. This is not becoming to men of faith.
Some call it the Two-House Controversy or the Ephraimite Error. They mock it and scorn anyone and everyone who dares to bring up the topic. Consider what the prophecy says. First, Ezekiel gives us a very famous prophecy about Israel becoming a nation again out of the ashes of the holocaust. It is called the dry bones prophecy of Ezekiel 37. The Lord has explained to Ezekiel that the dry bones he sees laying in the desert are the whole house of Israel. It is summarized this way.
“And I will put My Spirit within you, and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken and done it,” declares the Lord. EZE 37:14
This is a fulfilled prophecy in our generation. But Ezekiel goes further and describes a reunion of the two houses of Israel (Judah and Ephraim) that follows. Israel and Judah were separated back in the days after King Solomon. The House of Israel went into Assyrian captivity and eventually Judah went into captivity by the Romans. We are in the days when Judah has returned to the land, but where is Ephraim? The prophecy is clear that they will also return to the land and join Judah.
Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel, his companions; and I will put them with it, with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they will be one in My hand.” The sticks on which you write will be in your hand before their eyes. Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king will be king for all of them; and they will no longer be two nations and no longer be divided into two kingdoms. They will no longer defile themselves with their idols, or with their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. And they will be My people, and I will be their God.”’” EZE 37:19-23
This has not been fulfilled earlier. Ezekiel said that Ephraim would join Judah by ceasing from idols, ceasing from eating the detestable, and ceasing from transgressing the commandments. The modern Messianic Movement is teaching non-Jews (Ephraim?) those very things.
This controversy with some believing Messianic Jews is repeated by Yeshua.
Behold, I will cause those of the synagogue of Satan, who say that they are Jews, and are not, but lie - I will make them come and bow down at your feet, and make them know that I have loved you. REV 3:9
While this repeats what was said earlier, Yeshua also quoted from Isaiah. It is part of Isaiah’s descriptions of when all of Israel returns to the land at the end.
Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will lift up My hand to the nations and set up My standard to the peoples; and they will bring your sons in their bosom, and your daughters will be carried on their shoulders. Kings will be your guardians, and their princesses your nurses. They will bow down to you with their faces to the earth, and lick the dust of your feet; and you will know that I am the Lord; those who hopefully wait for Me will not be put to shame. ISA 49:22-23
According to Isaiah, “they” will be put to shame when the Messiah brings the sons of Israel back home. “They” are forced to bow low in humility to those returning. By Yeshua quoting this verse, He has identified the “they” as my fellow Messianic Jews who assert their Jewishness to the harm of those called Ephraim.
The modern Messianic Movement is a fulfillment of end-time prophecy including the controversy within our own ranks.
Beyond what I have addressed in this article, there are many more end-time prophecies that been fulfilled in our recent history. Their fulfillment suggests that we are on the right track looking with anticipation toward Jerusalem and the land of Israel for the other prophecies.
I believe that a reasonable-minded person who is willing to compare the events of our world with the words of the prophets will come to a simple conclusion: the end-time prophecies are happening in our days. I am convinced we are the final generation – the generation who the prophets were writing to. Let us, therefore, go forward and seek out the proper understanding of the prophecies and the days we are living in. Tomorrow will transform today into “recent history.”
